It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our former Board President and Coastline supporter for more than 30 years, George Smith, after a courageous battle with ALS. George’s commitment and unwavering dedication to Coastline’s mission had an indelible impact on our organization and countless older and disabled adults in New Bedford and the region.
George was a tireless advocate for aging adults. In 2020, his efforts led to his being named the Andrus Community Service award by AARP Massachusetts. His service to others included being New Bedford City Councilor for Ward 3 from 1994 to 2000. He also served on the board of the New Bedford Council on Aging and the city’s Commission for Citizens with Disabilities.
In January 2023, in recognition of his longtime support, Coastline recognized George by officially naming our Board of Directors room, the George Smith Board Room.
