Meals on Wheels Driver/ Department: Elderly Nutrition Program: Reporting to the Transportation Coordinator, the Meals on Wheels Driver is responsible for the delivery of meals to seniors in the Greater New Bedford Area.
Duties: Keep delivery route sheet accurate and up to date. Identify meal components and understand client diet information. Keep vehicle clean and fueled. Collecting and turning in, to the office, funds from home delivered meals clients using an anonymous envelope system. Maintain a warm, patient and resourceful personality towards seniors while displaying an understanding and sympathetic attitude. Notify office if the client does not answer the door or if any other problems are discovered. Must be alert to changes in seniors health, attitude and general well-being.
Other Requirements: Must be in reasonably good health and physically fit, as duties require going in and out of homes, climbing stairs, etc. Must have ability to pass written sanitation certificate exam, as required. Attend in service training outside of regularly scheduled hours. Inform Transportation Coordinator of mechanical problems with delivery truck. May be required to perform other duties as needed. A Massachusetts’s driver’s license and good driving record are required. Must be able to read, speak and write English.
