Senior Scope’s June issue is available online!
Happy Pride Month! This month’s cover story features the South Coast LGBTQ+ Network, a local nonprofit that is planning to open a community center in New Bedford for people across the LGBTQ spectrum. The project is slated to open in the fall of 2022.
At the ceremony, the Network announced that it was especially focused on three LGBTQ subpopulations: youths, transgender individuals, and older adults.
Through the Network’s own needs assessment survey and from anecdotes they’ve heard over the years, it was determined that support services for older LGBTQ adults is often lacking, and the group is hoping to change that.

Have a story about Kilburn Mill?
Organizers for an upcoming art exhibit featuring the history of New Bedford’s Kilburn Mill and its surrounding neighborhood are seeking stories from the public.
An art exhibit will be displayed on the third floor at Kilburn Mill, with an opening reception in the works for late August. The display at Kilburn Mill will be geared toward the early 20th century, when the mill was built.
The project will incorporate stories from locals who have a connection to the Kilburn Mill and the neighborhood. Family histories can take the form of photographs, written materials, or audio and video recordings.
To share your story, you can email Benjamin Cantor-Stone at bcantorstone11@bristolcc.edu. You may also contact the Kilburn Mill at 508-990-3500, and tell the receptionist you’re looking to contribute to the Textile Room exhibit. Those who are interested in submitting a story may include their name or remain anonymous.
